THE PROBLEM
World Trade Distribution Inc. is a large warehouse facility in Houston handles a high volume of international imports and exports and ships cargo around the world. World Trade was struggling with an unacceptably high number of delays in container loading and shipping because their cargo dimensioning process produced too many inaccurate and misrepresented dimensions and weights. The client contacted Cargo Spectre for a new and better solution that could reduce the time and money lost on repacks and shipping delays associated with its cargo dimensioning. We worked World Trade to improve their dimensioning accuracy and speed, starting with a custom cargo dimensioning consultation to determine the ideal dimensioning system to achieve their goals.
THE SOLUTION
Our analysis determined that our Pallet Spectre and Parcel Spectre could dramatically improve the accuracy and efficiency of our client’s cargo dimensioning process by rapidly producing dims at a much higher degree of accuracy than human input. Both systems use 3D scanning technology to accurately calculate the precise dimensions of every pallet or parcel in seconds. The A.I. systems also automatically record the exact weight of each piece of freight as well as its physical condition. Cargo Spectre’s software automatically stores all NTEP-certified cargo data into a custom cloud-storage system we set up for the client. After a demonstration, World Trade agreed that the Pallet Spectre and Parcel Spectre could do the job of half the company’s write-up staff.
PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Increased speed and more reliable accuracy were our client’s main objectives, but Cargo Spectre helped reduce the company’s payroll, too. World Trade paid a one-time upfront payment of $6,000 each for the Pallet Spectre and Parcel Spectre equipment, installation, and training—dramatically less than the $100,000 charged by our competitors. After installing our advanced machine-learning systems, World Trade pays only an all-inclusive $500 monthly fee for as long as the system is needed.
MEASURE OF SUCCESS
Thanks to faster, more accurate dims, World Trade Distribution built customer trust based on consistent, reliable, and NTEP-certified dimensions and weights that eliminated their problems with repacks and shipping delays. The customer estimates that the time and labor savings alone exceed a cost savings of $250,000 a year or more. With more efficient and reliable data stored and shared easily via the cloud, World Trade can now provide real-time info dropped straight into any computer around the world, creating a more efficient WMS and improved customer service capabilities that make their customers happy.
